FAQ
No. You can book occupational therapy services directly without a referral. Some extended health insurance plans may require a physician's referral for reimbursement, so it's always a good idea to check with your provider.
Do I need a referral?
Do you offer direct billing?
Yes. Kind Minds offers direct billing for Blue Cross. If direct billing isn't available for your plan, you'll receive a receipt that you can submit for reimbursement.
How long are sessions?
And how often?
Most appointments are 60 minutes, with options for shorter or longer sessions as needed. The frequency of therapy depends on your goals and needs. Some clients attend weekly or biweekly, while others benefit from monthly or consultative appointments. Together, we'll determine a schedule that best supports your progress.
What ages do you work with?
We provide occupational therapy services for children, teens, and adults. Every stage of life brings different strengths and challenges, and therapy is tailored to meet each person's individual goals.
Where are you located?
Do you travel?
Our clinic is located in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, at 174 Archimedes Street. We also offer select home, school, and community visits, along with virtual services across Nova Scotia. Home and community appointments in Truro and Antigonish are available on designated travel days.
If you have any previous assessments, reports, or relevant medical information, you're welcome to bring them with you. Otherwise, simply bring yourself. If the appointment is for a child, bringing a favourite comfort item can sometimes help them feel more at ease during their first visit.
What should I bring?
What funding do you accept?
OT is eligible for coverage through many extended health insurance plans, including Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife, Green Shield, and others. We offer direct billing for Blue Cross, while receipts are provided for reimbursement through all other insurance providers.
We also direct bill Jordan's Principle, provincial programs, and other approved funding sources.
